HIGHLAND – The top-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team scored on 5 of 8 first-half offensive possessions clinched a tie for the 2025 Jayhawk Conference championship on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons extended their overall win streak to 13 games and road win streak to 25 games in a 49-7 victory over the Highland Scotties at Porter Family Stadium in Highland.

The Blue Dragons (9-0) are 5-0 in the Jayhawk Conference and have clinched a tie for the 2025 league title. Coffeyville has completed its league schedule at 5-1. The Dragons can win the KJCCC outright next week with a Noon kickoff at Gowans Stadium in the 2025 regular-season finale against the Garden City Broncbusters.

Offensively, the Blue Dragons rushed for a season-high 253 yards and rolled up 420 total yards, holding the ball for a season high 36 minutes, 36 seconds. The Dragons scored on eight of 14 overall possessions.

Defensively, the Dragons held Highland to 110 total yard, including a minus-2 yards rushing. The Scotties had one third-quarter scoring drive of 75 yards, but over their 13 other offensive possessions, the Dragons allowed only 35 total yards. The Dragons had one takeaway, a Tavion Robinson fumble recovery, and Robinson added a safety on a quarterback sack.

Offensively, back-up quarterback Hudson Ferralez completed 11 of 16 passes for 123 yard and one touchdown. He also rushed for 49 yards and one score to lead Hutchinson offensively. Starting quarterback Christian Johnson was 6 of 14 passes for 11 yards and rushed for 25 yards, including a dazzling 9-yard touchdown run where he leaped over several players into the end zone in the first quarter.

Freshman Kade Smith had a game-high 53 rushing yards on seven carries with rushing touchdowns of 19 and 1 yard. Freshman Terrell King had 42 yards on nine carries. Rashaud Hurt had 38 yads on five carries and a 24-yard touchdown run.

Sophomore L.T. Robinson had game highs of five catches and 65 yards. Eddie McLaughlin had four receptions for 22 yards and Derrick Salley Jr. had three catches for 37 yards. Freshman Jibari Harris had his first career reception going for a 16-yard touchdown.

Freshman kicker Alejandro de la Poza booted 2 of 3 field goals from 24 yards and 21 yards.

Jack Sells and Darius Wiley had four tackles each to lead the Dragons defensively. The Dragons had two quarterback sacks and 12 tackles for loss.

Kordell Gouldsby‘s 56-yard return on the opening kickoff set the Blue Dragons up at the Scottie 36. Four plays later, Smith went over the right side and rolled for a 19-yard touchdown. The PAT was no good and the Dragons led 6-0 with 13:24 remaining in the first quarter. The Dragons made it 9-0 on the next possession when de la Poza kicked a 24-yard field goal with 9:00 to play in the quarter.

The Dragons were forced to punt on their next two possessions and then took possession at the Scottie 20 after a 10-yard punt. Three plays later, Johnson made his leap into the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown run and a 16-0 lead with 1:44 left in the first quarter.

The Blue Dragons added two second-quarter touchdowns in the second quarter. Hurt ran in from 24 yards out to cap a six-play, 54-yard drive for a 23-0 lead. Smith bulled over from a yard out with 1:35 to go in the period for a 30-0 lead at halftime.

The Dragons struck first in the third quarter when Harris caught his 16-yard touchdown reception from Ferralez for a 37-0 lead. Highland followed with a nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive that was capped on a fourth-down 19-yard touchdown catch by Ceedee Williams to cut the Dragon lead to 37-7.

After the Dragons’ lone turnover of the game gave the Scotties the ball at their own 4, two plays later, Robinson made it 39-7 after his quarterback sack in the end zone for a safety.

The Dragons scored 10 fourth-quarter points with a Ferralez 15-yard rushing touchdown and a de la Poza 21-yard field goal.
