Hutchinson CC Sports Information
Four different players achieved career or season scoring highs as the No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team earned an impressive victory over Murray State to open the Hutch Women’s Classic on Friday at the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons shot 49.3 percent and held the Aggies 38.0 percent in an 86-68 victory.
Hutchinson (4-1) will play Otero (0-6) at 4 p.m. on Saturday. State Fair (6-0) will meet Murray State at 2 p.m.

Freshman KaMyra Barber scored a season-high 23 points on 9 of 18 shooting and 5 of 5 from the foul line. Barber also had a season-high five assists.
Sophomore Noelle Anthon scored a career-high 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting, including single-game career-high two 3-point field goals. Anthon added six rebounds.
Freshman Kaia Smith had a season-high 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a 3-pointer.
Freshman Jamya McPherson scored a season-high nine points. Sophomore Jaden Wilson also scored nine points. Wilson added a career-high eight rebounds.
The Blue Dragons shot 49.3 percent for the game (33 of 67), hitting 5 of 17 from 3-point range and 15 of 21 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons out-rebounded Murray State 36-28 and had 19 assists and 14 steals.
Murray State shot 38.0 percent (19 of 50), hitting 5 of 13 from 3-point range. The Aggies sank an opponent-high 25 free throws in 32 attempts. The Aggies turned the ball over 24 times.
Murray State’s Jordyn McNeil scored an opponent individual high 22 points, hitting 11 of 14 from the free-throw line. Emily Steven had 17 points with three 3-pointers and Aniah Richard finished with 12 points.
Tied at 11 in the first quarter, the Blue Dragons went on a 8-0 run, which was capped by a Smith transition layup for a 19-11 lead with 1:09 remaining in the first quarter. Smith scored again in transition to take a 21-14 lead over Murray State after the first quarter.
The second quarter was one of scoring runs. Murray State started the quarter with a 5-0 run, which was answered by a 5-0 Blue Dragon run that was finished off by an Anthon putback for a 26-18 lead with 6:23 to go in the half. The Dragons later went on a 7-0 run, all from the foul line, to lead 32-23 with 2:35 left. The Aggies scored five straight to pull within 32-28 with 1:31 to go. Smith hit a jumper with 23 seconds left to cap a 6-0 Dragon run for a 38-28 lead. The Dragons led 38-30 at halftime.
Leading 40-36 in the third quarter, Barber had a three-point play to start a 9-0 run. She finished that run with a layup for a 49-36 lead with 6:07 to go. Murray State answered that with a 9-2 run to pull within 51-45 with 3:31 left. A McPherson 3-pointer started a Dragon 10-0 run and Barber’s run capped off the run for a 61-45 lead with 1:03 to play in the third. The Dragons led 61-50 after three quarters.
The Dragons scored the first six points of the fourth quarter and led 67-50 after a Whitney Brown field goal with 7:36 left. The Blue Dragons shot 60.0 percent (9 of 15) in the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTES – Whitney Brown had a season-high six assists. … The Blue Dragon bench outscored Murray State’s 32-3, outscored the Aggies 34-10 in points off turnovers and 44-24 in points in the paint. … The Blue Dragons are 7-1 all-time against Murray State, winning seven games in a row. … Blue Dragons were 19 of 32 shooting in the second half. … This was KaMyra Barber‘s second 20-point game this season.
