Smith Center Holds on to Beat Moundridge

The Moundridge Wildcats saw their season come to a close Friday night in the sectional round of the Class 1A playoffs with a 22-14 loss at Smith Center.

After Moundridge scored on a 17-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Kaizer Kanitz early in the first quarter, Smith Center would take control with an 80-yard 18-play touchdown drive and a 61-yard touchdown run by senior running back Brant Wilson to take a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Moundridge would tie the game at 14-14 with a 15-play 85-yard drive, scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run by senior running back Paul Grill to start the second half. The game would stay tied into the fourth quarter until Smith Center would make a 97-yard touchdown drive to take the lead, and their defense would knock down a Moundridge pass in the endvzone as time expired to secure the win.
Senior quarterback Kaizer Kanitz would lead Moundridge with 18 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 66 yards passing.
Moundridge finishes with an 8-3 record,  and Smith Center heads to Sterling next week for a battle of two 11-0 teams.
