McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s Mastermind McPherson County initiative grants, along with the first-ever grant awarded from the newly established Galva Community Fund. A total of $32,370 was distributed in November through both funds.
Galva Community Fund Awards Its First Grant
The Galva Community Fund, created in October, approved its first grant, a $10,000 award to support the replacement of playground equipment at Park.
The current playground, a wooden structure built in the 1980s, has served generations of Galva children but now requires replacement due to age and wear. The city of Galva also hopes that this new playground, paired with the recent planting of new trees, will provide the park with a new and improved look.
The Foundation and the Galva Community Fund grants committee hope this inaugural grant will inspire future community projects and demonstrate the lasting impact a local fund can have. The Galva Community Fund will operate on an annual grant cycle, with the next round of applications expected in late 2026.
Mastermind McPherson County Grants
Launched in 2022, the Mastermind initiative directs grant funding toward priorities identified by residents in each McPherson County community. The Foundation gathers input through an annual countywide survey and a series of community meetings.
For 2025, community beautification emerged as a major theme in both the survey and discussions. As a result, this year’s Mastermind grants focused on projects that enhance and revitalize shared spaces across the county.
Mastermind McPherson County joined the effort to improve Park Henry by awarding the City of Galva an additional $10,000 grant for the project.
2025 Mastermind Grant Recipients:
- City of Galva – Park Henry Renovation – $10,000 ($20,000 total)
- The Cedars – Community Labyrinth – $5,000 (matching)
- McPherson Middle School – Middle School Beautification – $6,400
