Wrestling Competes at Dan Harris Open

Baldwin City, KS – The Neosho CC Wrestling team competed at the Dan Harris Open hosted by Baker University on Sunday, Nov. 9th. Where the Panther’s saw competition from the NCAAII and NAIA.

Maleek Ayonrinde (So. Owings Mills, MD) went 3-1 on the day, with 3 falls, finishing 3rd at 184lbs. Starting off the day with a fall over jaron Alf from Ottawa University. Ayonrinde dropped his semi-final match to the eventual champion, but came back through on the backside of the bracket, with a fall over Justice Hield and then defeated Jaelyn Sides from Ottawa University, by fall in the 3rd place match.

Draven Pipkin (So. Spring Hill, KS) finished 4th at 197. After dropping his first round match to Landon Dobson of Central Missouri, Pipkin came back to defeat Nicholas Martinez of Missouri Valley by fall and then defeated Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte of Missouri Valley in the consolation Semifinal. In the consolation final Pipkin was defeated again by Dobson of Central Missouri, to finish 4th.

Coach Matt Hansen said “Overall we performed well today but we are still not there yet. We need to keep our nose to the grindstone and keep improving”

The Panthers next competition will be at home on November 12th against Carl Albert State College at 6:00 pm.
