The Haven Wildcats traveled to Phillipsburg for the second round of the Class 2A playoffs Friday night, and their season would conclude with a 52-22 loss.
Phillipsburg would dominate the game with the flexbone offense and score on its first four possessions of the first half, and lead 27-10 at halftime. Any hopes of a Haven comeback were dashed on the opening kickoff of the third quarter when Haven was unable to field a short kickoff, leading to a short-field touchdown for Phillipsburg.
Senior running back Blake Buresh for Phillipsburg would rush for 226 yards on 28 carries and five touchdowns. Junior quarterback Brogan Wray for Haven would throw for 174 yards and two touchdowns and add 69 rushing yards on 15 carries. Haven’s season concludes with a 7-3 record, and Phillipsburg’s season will continue with a 7-3 record as they will travel to undefeated Southeast of Saline next week.
