Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team had a season-low offensive output and was upset by the Southwestern Christian Rams on opening night of the 2025 BSN Sports Tip-Off Classic at the Sports Arena.
The Dragons shot a season-low 41.9 percent as Southwestern Christian earned its first win ever over Hutchinson in a 71-68 upset.
The Blue Dragons (3-1) will play Lamar (2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Southwestern Christian (3-0) will play Dodge City (2-1) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Tied at 31 at halftime, the Blue Dragons were stunned by an 11-0 Ram run as SWC erased a two-point Hutchinson advantage to take a 44-35 lead with 16:15 to play in the second half. The Dragons immediately responded with an 8-0 run to pull within 46-45 after an Asher Boney field goal with 14:04 remaining.

The Blue Dragons tied the game twice at 52 and 54, but never achieved the lead. Trailing 60-58, the Rams went on a 9-3 lead to build a 69-61 advantage with 1:48 to play.
Kordell Williams scored with 3.7 seconds to play to cut the deficit to one at 71-68 and had the ball, but couldn’t get a game-tying shot away to complete the comeback.
Kyrell Shaw led the Blue Dragons with 17 points, but on 4 of 13 shooting. Sophomore Asher Boney finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Daleron Thomas was next with nine points, while Williams and Chudier Dorar had eight points each.
The Blue Dragons were 23 of 55 from the floor, hitting 5 of 23 from 3-point range and 17 of 21 from the free-throw line. The Dragons out-rebounded Southwestern Christian 37-32 and had 14 turnovers.
Donny Thomas had 14 points to lead Southwestern Christian. Ahmere Ross had 11 points and Daryl Blanks finished with 10.
The Rams were 22 of 57 overall (38.6 percent), hitting 8 of 24 from 3-point range and 19 of 27 from the foul line. The Rams had nine turnovers.
GAME NOTES – This as the first loss Hutchinson has suffered at the BSN Sports Tip-Off Classic. The Dragons are now 8-1 all-time. … Hutchinson is now 1-1 all-time against Southwestern Christian.
