Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Men’s Basketball team played host to the Barclay College Bears in what was the Swedes home opener.
The Swedes certainly did not disappoint the home crowd as they opened with a 15-3 lead by the first media timeout. Donovan Newton came out scorching in his return to Hahn Gymnasium with 15 first half points to lead the Swedes. David Clayton and Keddric Mays II each reached double-digit scoring (10) in the first period as well.
The second half featured the entire Swedes’ bench showcasing the depth Bethany has. Jaxon Woods showed out in his home debut with eight second half points to go along with three steals, two rebounds, and an assist. The Swedes would cruise to a 96-57 win.
Donovan Newton led the Swedes in scoring with 17 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. Curtis Stovall III and David Clayton each dropped 11, and Keddric Mays II poured in 10. JJ Warfield reeled in a game-high seven rebounds and rejected two shots.
The Swedes were in control of this one and it showed in the turnover differential. Bethany forced 23 turnovers compared to Barclay’s nine. The Swedes were also dominant in the paint scoring 48 of their 96 points within three feet of the rim.

The Swedes are set to take on the Barclay College Bears again next week. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11 in Haviland, Kan.
