INMAN, Kan. – It was a tale of two halves in Friday night’s 1A Regional playoff game between Moundridge and Inman.  The Teutons struck first, building a 14-0 lead by halftime, but the Wildcats responded with 22 unanswered in the second half for a 22-14 win.

Kru Harris got things going in the first quarter with a 23-yard touchdown run for Inman and Malachi Brunk added the two-point run to put the Teutons up 8-0.  Just past the midway point of the second quarter, Brunk added a 29-yard touchdown run as Inman led by 14 at the break.

The Teutons defense made a stop on Moundridge’s first second-half possession, but pinned deep in their own territory, Inman fumbled the ball and recovered it in their own end zone, leading to a safety and two points for the Wildcats.  On the ensuing free kick, Logan Greenwalt brough the ball to midfield and Paul Grill followed it up with a 40-yard run to the Inman ten-yard line.  Two plays later, Kaizer Kanitz found paydirt with a seven-yard score and an extra point cut Inman’s lead to 14-9.

Kanitz found the end zone again on a six-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter, giving Moundridge their first lead of the game a 15-14 after a failed two-point attempt.  A back and forth final quarter was scoreless until Grill scored on a 51-yard touchdown with 1:23 left to put the Wildcats up 22-14.  Inman’s final chance was thwarted on an interception by Heath Churchill with 38 seconds left to seal a Moundridge win.

Moundridge gained 285 yards total with 231 on the ground.  Only two players carried the ball as Grill led the way with 20 carries for 194 yards and the touchdown and Kanitz had the other 13 carries for 37 yards and two scores.  Brunk had 17 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown to lead the Inman offense that totaled 271 yards on the night.

Inman finished their season at 8-2, while Moundridge improved to 8-2 and will move on to the quarterfinals to take on Smith Center next Friday night.  The Redmen are 10-0 after a 24-14 win over TMP-Marian in the second round in Smith Center.
