GREAT BEND, Kan. — The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the Crest Theatre, located at 1905 Lakin Avenue, where Addison Crites, Great Bend Public Relations Director, read a proclamation from Mayor Cody Schmidt officially declaring November 9th as Crest Theatre Day. This marks the beginning of a weekend celebration honoring the Crest’s 75-year legacy as a historical and community landmark in the heart of Great Bend.
This Sunday, November 9th, the public is invited to step back in time and relive the magic of the Crest’s 1950 grand opening. The theater will present two showings of the original film, Two Weeks With Love, starring Jane Powell and Ricardo Montalban. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., with screenings at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Admission is just one dollar, which includes popcorn, thanks to sponsor Max Nichols and the Nichols Family Trust. Tickets are available only at the box office on the day of the event, and seating is first-come, first-served.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their best 1950s Hollywood attire for a chance to win the “Best Dressed” contest, with winners announced at each screening. The lobby and mezzanine will showcase historical displays, and uniformed usherettes will distribute commemorative programs. A special 75th Anniversary booklet will be available for purchase for $5.
Chamber President Megan Barfield shared, “The Crest has been part of Great Bend’s history for 75 years, welcoming families, friends and visitors through its doors. We’re honored to help celebrate this milestone and to recognize the theater’s lasting place in our community’s history and future.”
