Winfield, Kan. – The Bethany College volleyball team continued its strong late-season push with a decisive 3–1 win (25–22, 19–25, 28–26, 25–15) over Southwestern College on Saturday, November 1st, inside Stewart Fieldhouse.
The Swedes opened the match with energy, taking the first set behind efficient attacking and a balanced offense. After the Moundbuilders evened the score with a second-set win, Bethany regrouped to claim a crucial third set in extra points before cruising through the fourth to secure the victory.
Sophomore setter Ashlynn Gehring led the charge with another all-around performance, finishing with 13 kills, 29 assists, and 12 digs, while hitting an efficient .278 and earning her 7th triple-double of the season. Blanca Ariciniega Palma continued her standout season with 15 kills on a team-best .351 hitting percentage, and Jordyn Carpenter added 13 kills and 17 digs to complete a double-double.
Defensively, Michelle Acevedo Ortiz anchored the back row with a match-high 32 digs, while Antonette Carochi and Chloe Linville combined for seven total blocks to stifle the Moundbuilders’ offense. Alivia Cheatham added eight kills, 17 digs, and four block assists in another strong two-way effort.
Bethany hit .233 as a team and recorded 14 team blocks while limiting Southwestern to a .178 attack percentage. The Swedes closed out the fourth set in commanding fashion, using a 9–1 run to pull away and cap the victory.
Up next, the Swedes are on the road in Sterling, Kan., taking on the Sterling College Warriors, Wednesday, November 5th starting at 5:15 pm for Devo. and 7pm for varsity.
