ROSE HILL, Kan. – The McPherson High School Boys Soccer team’s season came to an end on Monday, Nov. 3, falling to Rose Hill in the State Quarterfinal 3-0.
The Bullpups had five shots on the contest, and keeper Gabe Standfast had 11 saves on 14 shots on goal faced. All three of Rose Hill’s goals were in the first half. McPherson’s final record is 10-9-0.
The Bullpups were 7-2-0 against 4-1A opponents in the regular season before defeating Coffeyville-Field Kindley and Independence in Regionals. The team played the remainder of their games against 5A and 6A teams. Seven of the team’s 10 wins in the season overall were shutouts.
“Having a season come to an end is never easy, especially when it’s with a group of kids you wanted to coach as long as possible,” Head Coach Chris Adrian said. “Down 0-3 at the half, the boys kept fighting, just like they have all season. I was proud of their effort, their attitude, and the way they continued to battle together until the final whistle.”
Adrian concluded with high praise for the current class. “This team has every reason to hold their heads high,” Adrian said. “Week after week, they went toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the state and proved they belong among them. Making it back to the state quarterfinals for the third time in four years is an incredible accomplishment, especially for this senior class.”
“These seniors are going to be missed,” Adrian added. “They’re not only talented players, but also exceptional young men who have poured so much into this program over the years. It’s been a privilege to coach them.”
