The Hutchinson Central Christian Cougars advanced to the second round of the Kansas Eight-Man II football playoffs with a 54-0 victory over the Stafford Trojans Thursday night at Central Christian.
Central Christian improved to 9-0 and Stafford finished the season with a 2-7 record.
The Cougars had 404 all-purpose yards (248 yards rushing, 49 yards passing, 8 yards on a kickoff return, 36 yards in punt returns and a 63-yard interception return).
Central Christian’s Piercen Huff rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on just 9 carried, including a 45-yard TD run, and caught 2 passes for 6 yards.
Quarterback Luke Eigsti rushed for 64 yards and passed for 49. Konnor Sullivan rushed for 61 yards on 4 carries, including a 30-yard TD run.
Calvin Barnett caught 3 passes for 43 yards, including a 37-yard TD pass from Eigsti, and had the 63-yard Pick-6. He also intercepted another pass.
Cael Kooiman returned 3 kickoffs for 207 yards, including a 50-yard return. Huff had 44 kick return yards.
Karson Sullivan and Kooiman led the Cougars’ defense in tackles with 6 each. Eigsti had 5 tackles. The Cougars had 5 tackles for loss, including 4 quarterback sacks.
The Cougars will play Logan/Palco (7-2) in the second round. Logan/Palco defeated Satanta 54-6Â Thursday at Logan. Satanta finished the season with a 1-8 record.
