HOAL Cross Country: Trinity Boys Claims Third Straight Title

For the third straight year, the Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys cross country team brought home the Heart of America League championship.

The HOAL championship meet took place Thursday at the Prairie Hills course outside of Hutchinson.

Trinity’s Jacob Lindstrom finished as individual champion in the varsity boys 5K race for the second straight season. He posted a time of 17 minutes, 23.2 seconds and was an All-League performer.

John Lindstrom finished second with a time of 17:43.4 and was named All-League.

Celtic seniors Cameron Kiser, Ambrose Pennycuff and Sam Pennycuff medaled and earned All-League recognition for placing 10th, 12th and 13th with times of 18:37.7, 18:51.9 and 18:52.

Rounding out the Celtics’ effort were Dylan Bornholdt and Sam Madden, who placed 16th and 17th with times of 19:51.1 and 19:20.1.

For the Hutchinson Trinity girls, Clara Robinson placed 31st with a time of 25:43.5. Emma Martin finished 39th, 26:50.3; Aleah Leghton, 46th, 28:08.9; Sally Harroald, 54th, 35:24.3; and Arianna Cano, 55th, 36:45.3.

Inman and Sterling girls and boys cross country teams also competed at the Heart of America League championship.

In the varsity boys competition, Tyler Martisko earned First Team All League by placing third with a time of 17:50.3. Riley Roots earned Second Team All League by placing eighth with a time of 18:33.3.

This was the first time Inman has had a complete girls team compete in the league meet. The Teutons placed sixth out of 12 teams.

Inman’s top girls runner was freshman Loki Turcotte, who placed 26th with a time of 26:12.3. Abigail Seimens placed 34th, 25:48.1; Addison Wedel, 38th, 26:24.9; Natalie Siemens, 45th, 27:56.6; Camille Bray, 48th, 28:45.7; and Jayden Roots, 49th, 28:50.5.

Sterling’s top girls runner was Israel Kuhn, who placed 36th with a time of 25:50.4. Annabelle deWit placed 40th, 26:54.9; Maklyn Larsen, 44th, 27:53.2; and Kyler Larsen, 52nd, 32:43.5.

The Sterling boys were led by Sebi Simpson-Eighmy, who placed ninth with a time of 18:36.6. William Wilson placed 21st, 20:00.4; Ryder Heter, 34th, 21:40; Ben Bierstedt, 38th, 21:54.9; Isaac Welty, 39th, 22:17.9; Clark Weber, 55th, 26:01.3; and Noah Gray, 58th, 29:42.7.

Hutchinson Trinity and Inman will compete at the 2A regional Oct. 25 at Wichita Trinity Academy. Sterling will compete at the Kansas Class 2A regional at Ellis.
