Leavenworth, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Soccer team faced the University of St. Mary Spires on Saturday afternoon, October 11, in a KCAC road matchup under warm conditions.
The Swedes started the match very well, showing solid organization and discipline in their defensive structure. Despite a few long-range attempts from the Spires, Bethany kept danger to a minimum and even came close to opening the scoring in the 10th minute when Brooke Babcock‘s shot hit the post.
However, in the 19th minute, after a series of rebounds inside the box that the Swedes’ defense couldn’t fully clear, St. Mary managed to find the opener. Despite the setback, Bethany maintained their composure and continued to battle, creating several moments of danger and showing strong defensive effort throughout the first half, going into halftime down just 1–0.
In the second half, fatigue and injuries started to take a toll on the Swedes, and the Spires took advantage, adding five more goals to close out the match with a 6–0 scoreline.
Even in a difficult second half, the Swedes showed commitment and fight, continuing to push forward and support each other until the final whistle.
