Hutchinson Central Christian off to 6-0 Start, Hosts Pretty Prairie on Friday

The Hutchinson Central Christian Cougars improved to 6-0 (3-0 at home and 3-0 on the road) with a 36-0 victory over Argonia/Attica last Friday night at Argonia.

Central Christian will host Pretty Prairie on Friday night and will play at Norwich on Oct. 24. Both games are Eight-Man II District 5 contests.

The Cougars, coached by Matt Barnett, have posted four straight shutouts and have allowed just 22 points this season.

Central Christian opened the season with a 62-14 victory at Sunrise Christian and then pounded Canton-Galva 56-8 in Week 2.

The Cougars then shut out Stafford 62-0, Fairfield 50-0 and St. Paul 46-0 before the 36-0 win over Argonia/Attica. Argonia/Attica dropped to 4-2.

Central Christian led 8-0 against Argonia/Attica after one quarter and 22-0 at halftime. The Cougars did not score in the third quarter and added 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Central Christian quarterback Luke Eigsti completed 15-of-19 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 41 yards on 12 carries.

Piercen Huff rushed for 85 yards and Konnor Sullivan added 30.

Huff scored two TDs amd Calvin Barnett added another TD run. Huff scored on four PAT runs and Luke Eigsti added 2.

Sullivan led the Cougar defense with 9 tackles, Cael Kooiman made 7 stops and Huff 5. Luke Eigsti, Huff and Barnett had interceptions.

Huff leads the Cougars in rushing for six games with 774 yards, Sullivan has 615 and Luke Eigsti 217. Luke Eigsti has completed 34-of-54 passes for 630 yards, five TDs and no interceptions.

Huff has 12 catches for 114 yards, Barnett 11 for 218 and Kooiman 7 for 108.

The Cougars have scored 43 TDs this season, led by Huff with 18, Sullivan 14 and Luke Eigsti 7. Central Christian also have 27 2-point conversions, led by Huff with 9, Eigsti 6 and Konnor Sullivan 6.

Central Christian has scored 312 points this season, led by Huff with 126, Konnor Sullivan 96, Luke Eigsti 54, Barnett 18, Kooiman 16 and Adam Eigsti 2.

Kooiman leads the Cougar defense with 41 tackles, followed by Barnett 36, Huff 36, Karson Sullivan 35, Konnor Sullivan 34, Brayden Wallace 31, Luke Eigsti 26, Trey Miller 16 and Tyler Reed 11.

Luke Eigsti has 6 interceptions and Huff 3. The Cougars have 3 sacks.

In 2024, Central Christian posted a 9-2 record. The Cougars defeated Macksville and Logan/Palco in the first two rounds of the Eight-Man II state football playoffs (48-6 in both games).

Central Christian lost to Victoria 70-28 last year in the sectional round.

In 2023, Central Christian posted a 6-4 record. The Cougars lost to Axtell 52-6 in the second round of the Eight-Man Division II playoffs.

The first round of the 2025 Kansas Eight-Man II football playoffs begin on Thursday, Oct. 30, and Friday, Oct. 31.
