Reno County Sabres Dominate Douglass in 11-Man Football Game

The Reno County Sabres Homeschool football team dominated Douglass 46-16 in their first 11-man game of the season Friday night at Douglass.

The Sabres improved to 6-0.

Reno County led 40-8 at halftime.The second half was played with a running clock from 4:51 on in the third quarter when Reno County took a 46-8 lead.

“We faced a quality opponent in the Douglass Bulldogs,” said Reno County coach Lee Smith. “The Sabres were up 16-0 after the first quarter and 40-8 at halftime. The Sabres ran and passed relatively equally, rushing 31 times for 200 yards and passing 28 times for 258 yards.”

Junior quarterback Bo Smith completed 19-of-26 passes for 258 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He added 115 yards rushing on 18 carries with two more TDs.

Freshman wide receiver Colt Smith caught 4 passes for 67 yards and two TDs. Freshman running back Rock Smith caught 6 passes for 65 yards. Senior wide receiver Sam Loewen caught 2 passes for 65 yards

Bo Smith has completed 70-of-93 passes (75%) for 1,201 yards, 26 TDs and 0 interceptions. He has rushed for 655 yards on 52 carries (12.6 yards per carry) with 15 TDs.

Colt Smith has caught 15 passes this season for 312 yards and 10 TDs. Rock Smith has 18 catches for 284 yards and 10 TDs

The Reno County Sabres will play an Eight-Man game next Friday against Eight-Man traditional power Burlingame.

Burlingame improved its record to 5-1 Friday night with a 54-8 victory over Hartford. The Bearcats are ranked seventh in Eight-Man II by The Wichita Eagle.

The Bearcats have outscored their opponents 268-94. Burlingame has wins over Northern Heights 52-12, Waverly 52-0, Centre 48-0 and Lebo 36-32. Burlingame lost to Madison/Hamilton 42-26.

In addition to the win over Douglass, Reno County has outscored its opponents 407-32. The Sabres have beaten Stafford 68-22, Norwich 60-14, Fairfield 65-12, Marmaton Valley 93-38 and Colony-Crest 75-30.

The Sabres play an 11-Man game Oct. 24 at Eureka and wrap up the regular season with an Eight-Man game Oct. 30 at Stanton County.
