MULVANE, Kan. – The McPherson Bullpup Football team entered Friday with a four-game win streak, but it was snapped by Mulvane at Lyle Couch Stadium 34-3.
McPherson (4-2, 2-1 AVCTL-III) finished with a season-low 181 total yards of offense, scoring only on their first drive on a 36-yard field goal by Jaxon Hoover. Those were the only points that McPherson would muster, as Mulvane (5-1, 3-1 AVCTL-III) scored on their ensuing drive to take the lead, which they took for good.
Mulvane’s option-style offense catapulted them to 345 rushing yards and only 26 passing yards. Junior RB Grady Myers led with 192 rushing yards on 22 carries, scoring four touchdowns. QB Manny Myers scored the other Wildcat touchdown, rushing for 133 total yards on 18 attempts.
The Bullpups’ leading rusher was their quarterback Carter Bengtson, who finished with 30 rushing yards on eight carries. Bengtson also threw for 114 yards, with Ashton Malm leading all receivers with 65 yards on five catches.
The Bullpups will look to turn it around on Homecoming on Friday, Oct. 17 against Augusta, who lost 3-0 against Abilene to move to 1-5 on the season.
