Drew Dechant threw for a season-high 163 yards on a season-high 11 completions, and Trinity Catholic posted its first shutout of the season Friday, as the Celtics won their fifth straight game by blanking Ellinwood 26-0.

The Celtics held the Eagles’ powerful running game in check. A run game that averages over 250 yards a game was held to just 40 rushing yards. Ellinwood mustered just seven first downs and 111 total yards.

Trinity scored on its first possession as Dechant fired a 31-yard touchdown pass to Bentyn Chastain for the only score of the first quarter.

Luke Kerns had second-quarter touchdown runs of 47 yards and 1 yard, as Trinity built a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Kaid McElgunn scored the only touchdown of the second half on a 46-yard pass from Dechant.

Trinity improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Class 1A District 7. The win also clinched a playoff berth for the Celtics, who welcome Medicine Lodge next week.
