Andale Weekly Wrap: Indians Looking to Finish Strong as Regular Season Ends

ANDALE, Kan. — Milestones and strong finishes for Andale athletes as the regular season is set to conclude soon for multiple sports. 

Volleyball 

Two Andale Lady Indians surpassed milestones on Tuesday. In Andale’s sweep over Wellington (25-15, 25-13) and Augusta (25-11, 25-10), senior Hayden Grimes went over 1,000 kills in her career. Junior Abbi Winter went over 1,000 assists in her career. Andale (25-1) has now won 14 matches in a row, with a busy week next week. Andale will host El Dorado and Rose Hill on Tuesday night for Senior Night, travel to Wichita Collegiate on Thursday to take on the Lady Spartans and Clearwater and wrap up the regular season next Saturday in a tournament at Goddard. 

Cross Country

The Andale boys cross country team won its third consecutive meet, winning the Goessel Invitational in North Newton on Thursday. Andale won the meet with 30 points, 46 more than runner-up Moundridge. Andale had four runners in the top 20, led by Jack Cutler, finishing third with a time of 16:52.09. Sam Pavelski finished sixth (17:45.47), Roman Lubbers was ninth (17:51.79), and Dustin Buchanan took 10th (17:52.06). Cade Brown finished 16th (18:22.13). Levi Schmidt finished 24th (19:00.95) and Rhett Romero was 29th (19:32.40). On the girls side, Ayvah Banda finished fifth with a time of 20:57.22. Carlin Seiler finished 28th (24:03.12) and Oliva Steven was 29th (24:07.84). Mabel Smarsh ran a 24:23.38, good for 33rd, Emma Meyer was 40th (25:55.11), and Lucy Seiler finished 44th (27:22.74). As a team, Andale was fifth with 109 points. Andale will have the AVCTL Championships next Saturday. 

Girls Golf 

Andale finished seventh at the AVCTL III and IV Golf Championship held at Cherry Oaks Golf Course on Tuesday. Billie Jo Chaffin had the low score with a 47, finishing 20th. Sadie Aylward finished 32nd with a 52. Eva Krehibel finished 37th with a 53. Jacee Mattox finished with a 55, good for 42nd. Peyton Jantz finished 48th with a 59, and Ali Wegerer was 49th with a 63. Andale will travel to Hesston Golf Course on Monday for regionals hosted by Buhler.
