McPherson Volleyball Wins Chanute Invitational

CHANUTE, Kan. – McPherson High School Volleyball took a nearly two-and-a-half-hour road trip Saturday, Oct. 4 to Chanute, winning five matches to earn first place in the invitational.

McPherson played in three matches in pool play, defeating Girard in three sets (19-25, 25-14, 25-7), Erie in two sets (25-7, 25-4), and Paola in two sets (25-20, 25-23).

The three wins set the Bullpups up to play in the semifinals, where they defeated Frontenac in three sets (21-25, 25-13, 25-13). McPherson then rematched Girard in the finals, which was all Bullpups to close the invitational in a two-set victory (25-18, 25-9).

Ava Romero was a quadruple threat for McPherson, leading the team with 4.5 kills/set, 3.0 digs/set, five total blocks, and 15 total service aces (1.3/set). Brooke Doile finished with 3.6 kills/set and 2.9 digs/set. Rylie Whitfield had 11.6 assists/set and 2.2 digs/set.

McPherson improves to 22-4 on the season. The Bullpups will travel to El Dorado on Tuesday, Oct. 7 for a triangular with El Dorado & Circle.
