The Hutchinson High School volleyball team placed second in the Great Bend Invitational Saturday.
The Salthawks posted a 3-1 record in the tournament and improved their overall record to 17-8.
The Salthawks defeated Newton 25-12, 25-16, Salina Central 25-21, 25-23 and Wichita West 25-8, 15-14. Hutchinson lost to Great Bend 25-15, 18-25, 25-14.
In addition to beating Hutchinson, Great Bend (4-0 in the tournament, first place, 14-9 overall) defeated Salina Central 25-8, 25-11, Newton 25-20, 25-19 and Wichita West 25-7, 25-12.
Salina Central (15-9 overall) went 2-2 in the tournament and placed third. The Mustangs defeated Newton 23-25, 25-23, 25-16 and Wichita West 25-17, 25-15 and lost to Hutchinson and Great Bend.
Newton (8-21 overall) went 1-3 in the tournament and placed fourth. The Railers defeated Wichita West 25-12, 25-9 and lost to Salina Central, Great Bend and Hutchinson.
Wichita West (3-19 overall) placed fifth at 0-4 with losses to Salina Central, Newton, Hutchinson and Great Bend.
