The Barton Community College women’s golf team continued its torrid start to the season, firing back-to-back program records enroute to a runaway victory at the Bethel Fall Invitational held the past two days at the Hesston Golf Course.
The Cougars followed a 302 opening round with a school-record 292 (16-over) on Tuesday, producing a new two-round program best 594 (42-over) to capture their fourth straight win. The single and tournament records surpassed the program’s best scores of 297 and 599 set by the squad two weeks ago at the Central Kansas Classic but remains second to both in regards to finishing over par.
Well behind Barton by 124 strokes was Central Christian College’s 718 with Bethel College finishing third at 791 as Bethany College did not post a team score in rounding out the field.
Individually, Diana Alvarado secured her second medalist honor of the fall, following an opening 74 by matching her career-best 69 score in Tuesday’s final round to finish with a 5-over 143.
Six strokes back in the runner-up position of the 25-entry field, last week’s Central Plains champion Chomchanok Laparojkit posted an opening 78 card before setting her new collegiate best 71 score in accumulating an 11-over 149.
Also making a day two improvement, Panalee Prachavittayagon finished just a stroke behind in third pairing 76 and 74 rounds for a 12-over 150.
Suri Rocha Orozco grabbed the next spot at 14-over 152 behind 74 and 78 cards securing Barton’s sweep of the top-four placings.
Giovanna Tabanag posted rounds of 83-79 to place sixth at 24-over 162 leading a log jam of Cougars finishing inside the top ten. Alexandria Hunt was two strokes back in 7th at 26-over 164 on an 84 and collegiate best 80 card, Kadynce Nash another two strokes tying for 8th at 28-over 166 in matching her best 82 round followed by an 84, and Alexandria Baxter rounding out the entries in 10th at 31-over 169 despite following her collegiate best 79 with a stumble round of 90 Tuesday morning.
Barton will look to keep its perfect start rolling in two weeks competing at the Falcon Cup Classic, October 13-14 at Auburn Hills Golf Course in Wichita.
