Swedes Volleyball fall in Five Despite Gehring’s Triple-Double

Lindsborg, Kan. – Bethany College hosted the Friends University Falcons, Saturday, September 27th in Hahn Gymnasium. This battle between wills went into extra points in two of the five sets, giving the fans a high stakes game to watch. The Swedes fell after taking the first two sets to the Falcons, 2-3, (33–31, 25–19, 15–25, 27–29, 13–15).

The Swedes came out strong, edging out an extended first set, 33–31, before carrying momentum into the second with a commanding 25–19 win. The Swedes had 20 kills, 0 zeros in the second set, overall hitting a .377. However, Friends responded in set three with their most efficient offensive frame, hitting .295 to take the set, 25–15. The fourth set turned into another nail-biter, but Bethany couldn’t close the door as Friends evened the match, 29–27. In the decisive fifth, the Falcons held off a late Swedes push to secure the 15–13 victory.

Notable Stats from this game include Ashlynn Gehring‘s 4th triple-double on the season with 15 kills, 26 assists, and 22 digs, overall hitting a .231, 14 kills by Blanca Ariciniega Palma, and 43 digs by Michelle Acevedo Ortiz.

Up next, the Swedes are hosting the McPherson College Bulldogs Wednesday, October 1st in Hahn Gymnasium. Devo starts at 5pm and varsity is set to start at 7pm.
