
Buhler High School running back Ben Clouse set a school record with 379 rushing yards Friday night in the Crusaders’ 42-20 win over Towanda-Circle.
Clouse also scored three touchdowns on runs of 7, 4 and 33 yards as Buhler improved to 3-1.
“Our offensive linemen had an outstanding game,” said Buhler football coach Steve Warner. “They were dominant in the game. Nixon Standlee, Logan Turner, Gabe Edmund, Jax Pratt, Jacob Miller, John Aldrich, Jackson Rumbaugh and Kolbi McCarty all did a great job of helping Ben Clouse set a school record in rushing. Ben had 379 yards rushing. He was outstanding.”
Buhler led 7-0 after one quarter, 21-6 at halftime and 35-6 after three quarters.
Max Harmony ran for a 5-yard TD and caught an 11-yard TD pass from Asher Zachary. Asher McCounnaughy added a 25-yard TD run.
The Circle Thundebirds scored on a 5-yard run by Jay Bonewitz, a 42-yard run by Ben Smith and a 13-yard TD in the fourth quarter.
Buhler gained 488 yards in total offense (434 rushing and 54 passing). McCounnaughy ran for 35 yards and Harmony 13.
Zachary completed 4-of-10 passes for 54 yards. Jaxon Pratt caught 2 passes for 32 yards, Jacob Miller 1 for 11 and Harmony 1 for 11.
Circle gained 349 yards in total offense (156 passing and 191 rushing).
Mason Stobart completed 9-of-15 passes for 98 yards. Cole Wilbur completed 3-of-6 passes for 33 yards and rushed for 69 yards on 9 carries. Jason Smith rushed for 61 yards on 4 carries, including a 42-yard run.
Buhler will play next Friday at Wamego (2-2), which lost to Topeka Hayden 42-6 Friday night. Buhler defeated Wamego 28-14 in 2024.
The Circle Thunderbirds host Winfield next Friday. After losing to McPherson 46-27 Friday, Winfield dropped to 0-4.
