Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Soccer team played an exciting non-conference match on Wednesday evening, finishing with a 2–2 draw against Central Christian College in their final non-conference game of the season. The match was scheduled during the team’s bye week in conference play to maintain rhythm and competitive intensity.
The first half was a tight and hard-fought battle, with both sides showing solid defensive organization. The Swedes impressed with their structure and intensity, producing 10 shots – most from long distance – while limiting the Tigers to just five attempts.
Bethany started the second half strongly, taking the lead just five minutes after the restart. A well-delivered corner kick by Jysell Sampedro caused trouble in the Tigers’ box and found Londyn Salinas, who tapped the ball in to make it 1–0. Central Christian leveled the score soon after from a free kick following a questionable foul, converting with a well-placed finish. The match then turned into a back-and-forth contest, with both teams creating chances and showing tremendous effort. With less than seven minutes remaining, the Swedes regained the lead in unusual fashion — a miscleared ball by a Tigers defender spun back toward their own goalkeeper, who mishandled it and conceded an own goal, giving Bethany a 2–1 advantage.
However, the drama was not over. In the final seconds of the match, Central Christian equalized with a long-range shot that hit the crossbar and then deflected off the Swedes’ goalkeeper into the net, sealing the 2–2 result. Despite the heartbreaking late goal, the Swedes’ performance showed determination, resilience, and continued growth as they prepare for the conference stretch ahead.
