Kansas City, Mo. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Soccer team fell 7–0 on the road to Avila University on Friday afternoon in their second conference match of the season.
Our Swedes looked solid in the opening minutes, controlling Avila’s attack, but the Eagles found their first goal in the 15th minute, followed by five more during the first half to take a commanding 6–0 lead into halftime. While Avila came into the match rested after not playing midweek, the Swedes were coming off a hard-fought conference game just 44 hours earlier, followed by a three-hour trip to Kansas City. Combined with the early 1 p.m. kickoff and high temperatures, the difference in freshness between the two teams was evident.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the Swedes battled throughout the match and showed strong resilience in the second half, limiting Avila to just one more goal in the last minutes of the game, while creating a few opportunities of their own. The effort and determination of the Bethany players stood out, as they continued to compete until the final whistle despite the challenging conditions.
