LINDSBORG, Kan. – In a matchup of Central Kansas League unbeatens on Friday night in Lindsborg, the Haven Wildcats scored early and often in the first quarter, building a 28-0 lead and never looking back in a 38-6 victory.
Smoky Valley received the opening kickoff and on their first possession tried to convert a fourth down in their own territory. They were stopped short and Haven took over on the Vikings 40-yard line to start their first possession. Soon after, Cole Brawner found the end zone to put the Wildcats up 7-0. After a three-and-out by the Viking offense on their second possession, the Wildcats scored in just one play on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Brogan Wray to Zade Turner. Up 14-0, Haven got two more touchdown runs from Brawner of three and 12 yards to take a 28-0 lead after the first quarter.
Haven added ten more points in the second quarter. Wray connected with Kolton Altvater on a 30-yard touchdown pass to put the Wildcats up 35-0. Altvater then added a 32-yard field goal late in the second quarter as Haven led 38-0 at the break.
The second half featured a running clock in its entirety. Smoky Valley got on the board midway through the fourth quarter on a 32-yard touchdown run by Jack Opat for the 38-6 final.
Haven moved to 3-0 with the win and they will begin 2A district play next week at home against Douglass. The Vikings are 2-1 and will start 3A district action on the road at Trinity Academy in Wichita this coming Friday night.
