AUGUSTA, Kan. – McPherson High School Volleyball increased their winning streak to four in a row after defeating Augusta and Circle in a road triangular.
After defeating Buhler and Mulvane in their home triangular on Cancer Awareness Night last week, the Bullpups had a week-long buffer before traveling to Augusta Tuesday, Sept. 16. McPherson started with a two-set sweep over Augusta, winning 25-12 & 25-15. The Bullpups were facing tough competition with the Augusta Orioles, including a McPherson College commit Molly Marteney. “We needed to play at our level, keep the intensity up, and limit errors,” Head Coach Christy Doile said. “We were able, as a team, to meet those goals.”
Their ensuing match against Circle became a three-set thriller, but McPherson prevailed 2-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-23). According to Doile, Circle was playing well coming in and earned the set one win, but McPherson took control in set two, gaining momentum into set number three.
Doile credited Adalyn Barrow’s stellar evening, who had a team-high four service aces and had 16 digs, averaging over three per set. Ava Romero led with 20 kills (4.0/set) and 19 digs (3.8/set). Rylie Whitfield had 54 assists in total (10.8/set).
McPherson is now 9-3 on the season. They head to the Wichita Southeast Invitational Saturday, Sept. 20.
