Sandbags at McPherson High School Not Deemed Fire Hazard

McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Fire Chief Chad Mayberry responded Friday afternoon to reports it has received about possible blocked entrance doors at McPherson High School.

Mayberry noted maintenance personnel have sandbagged around doors multiple times in the wake of the flooding of the Roundhouse floor in June.

Mayberry said they have done multiple walk-throughs of the facility in coordination with USD 418 Staff, and based on their reviews students and staff are not at risk and MHS is not in violation of fire codes.

The majority of doors that are blocked with sandbags are in areas that have been closed off due to water damage and are not accessible to students.

There are some doors in use that are sandbagged but maintenance staff ensures those are removed from doorways when the building is occupied.
