The Halstead, Haven and Nickerson high school volleyball teams competed at the Central Kansas League preseason tournament Saturday at the Hesston Middle School gymnasium.
Hesston defeated Hillsboro 25-21, 25-23 in the championship match.
Halstead, the defending Kansas Class 3A state champions, finished with a 2-2 record in the tournament, including a 25-18, 17-25, 28-26 loss to Hoisington in the third-place match.
Halstead lost to Hesston 29-27, 10-25, 32-30 and Hoisington lost to Hillsboro 20-25, 25-18, 25-20 in bracket play.
The Nickerson Panthers lost to Hesston 25-13, 25-19 in bracket play and lost to Smoky Valley in the fifth-place match 25-19, 25-20..
In pool play at Hesston Middle School, the Nickerson Panthers lost to Hoisington 19-25, 26-24, 25-17 and defeated Pratt 25-23, 25-18. Hoisington defeated Pratt 25-12, 25-16.
Haven, Hesston and Hillsboro played pool matches in the Hesston High School Main Gym. Haven lost to Hesston 25-19, 25-25 and Hillsboro 25-19, 25-19. Hillsboro defeated Hesston 15-18, 21-25, 25-21.
Halstead, Larned and Smoky Valley played pool matches in the Hesston High School Auxiliary Gymnasium. Halstead defeated Larned 25-12, 25-7 and Smoky Valley 25-20, 25-20. Smoky Valley defeated Larned 25-15, 15-14.
In consolation matches at Hesston Middle School, Haven defeated Larned 25-19, 25-16 and lost to Pratt 26-28, 25-23, 29-27. Pratt defeated Larned 25-19, 25-16.
