Governor Kelly Directs Flags be Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Judge Bruce Brown

TOPEKA, Kan. (August 22, 2025) — Governor Laura Kelly has directed flags to be lowered at half-staff at the State Capitol Complex and all court buildings and facilities in honor of 18th Judicial District Division 10 Judge Bruce Brown who passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025. This act is in accordance with the Executive Order #20-30.

“Judge Brown had a long career of service to his community and commitment throughout his tenure on the bench,” Governor Laura Kelly said in a news release. “On behalf of the State of Kansas, I thank him for his dedication to upholding the law. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.”

The Flag Order is in effect until Judge Brown’s burial. It will be updated when the date of interment is determined.


FLAG HONORS UPDATE: 

TOPEKA, Kan. (August 26, 2025) — In accordance with Executive Order #20-30, Governor Laura Kelly directed flags to be lowered at half-staff in honor of Judge Bruce Brown beginning Friday, Aug. 22. 

Judge Brown will be interred after funeral services on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025. Flags are to remain at half-staff until sundown on the 30th.
