McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – Director of Athletics Josh Daume announced today that Aaron Frazier, Arryana Barton, and Kelly Cowan will be inducted into the McPherson College Athletics Hall of Fame this September during Homecoming Weekend. Hall of Fame selections are voted on by a committee of McPherson College alumni.
Aaron Frazier ’12 played three seasons for the Bulldogs from 2009 – 2012, averaging 24.3 minutes per game and 13.5 points per game. During the 2010-11 season, Frazier led the team in steals (59), blocks (31), and shooting percentage (48.3), earning All-KCAC Honorable Mention. He was also named to the 2011 NAIA Men’s Basketball D-II National Championship All-Tournament Team after averaging 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds in three games at the tournament. In the 2012 campaign, Frazier was named the KCAC Player of the Year and garnered First Team all-conference accolades. He was also honored as a NAIA First Team All-American following the team’s run to the national semi-finals.
Arryana Barton ’15 was part of the McPherson track and field team from 2012 – 2014, earning All-America honors in 2013 and 2014. During her time with the Bulldogs, Barton was part of the women’s team that won the KCAC Outdoor Championship in 2014, the first win for the women’s squad since 1977. Barton contributed to the Championship by bringing home gold in the shotput. Earlier that season, Barton set both personal and school records at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. She placed third in triple jump, recording a leap of 11.91m (39’1″) and twelfth in shotput posting a 13.28m (43’7″) mark. She set school records in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump and shotput events.
Kelly Cowan ’73 played defensive back for the Bulldogs from 1970 – 1972. Cowan was a three-year starter and was named captain his junior and senior year at McPherson. During his senior year, Cowan made seven interceptions, one of the top marks in the conference, and earned a well-deserved selection to the KCAC All-Conference First Team. Cowan went on an outstanding career as a coach in Kansas and Colorado high schools. His track and field and cross country teams have won multiple state championships. He was previously inducted into the Colorado Coaches Hall of Fame in 2023.
The inductees will be honored on Friday, September 26th at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet presented by Salina Regional Sports Medicine. This year’s banquet will be held at the McPherson Community Building at 6:00pm and is open to the public. The honorees will also be recognized at halftime of the football game against Ottawa University on September 27th. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm.
