HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Since 2015, Hutchinson Recreation Commission (Hutch Rec) has organized and hosted the annual Smallville Festival, an event that celebrates Hutchinson as Smallville, Kansas from the Superman comic books.

Hutch Rec assumed leadership of the festival at the request of its founding members, ensuring the continuation of event, which began in 2012.

“Hutch Rec has enjoyed the past 10 years of providing public events under the Smallville Festival,” said Anthony Finlay, Executive Director of Hutchinson Recreation Commission. “We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Hutchinson in such a unique way and to bring people together through this event.”

The festival will now return to the guidance of its original founder, Christopher Wietrick, who expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the legacy he began.

“We look forward to seeing where Christopher takes the Festival,” Finlay said.
