Murder Charges Pending Following Incident in Neosho County Saturday Evening

NEOSHO COUNTY, Kan. (August 10, 2025) — One person is dead and another in custody after a Saturday evening incident in far northeast Neosho County.

Neosho County Sheriff’s Deputies responded after a 911 call at 6:43 PM to a residence in the 300 block of North Washington in Stark. On arrival blood was observed on the front Porch, and deputies located the victim, identified as 65-year-old Scott Stevens of Stark, deceased.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in a little over two hours after the initial call, and the investigation led to identification of a suspect.

Luke Shepard, 45, of Uniontown, had fled the scene and was taken into custody without incident at his home by Bourbon County Sheriff’s deputies, after which he was transported to the Neosho County Jail in Erie on suspicion of first degree murder.

Formal charges are pending at this time, and The KBI said in a Sunday evening news release nothing further will be released at this time.
