ALLEN COUNTY, Kan. — Emergency crews rescued a 67-year-old man from a grain bin last night about nine miles northeast of Iola.
According to a release early this morning from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency units were dispatched at 7:45 PM to Bernsten Farms in the 3000 block of Utah Road, where the man was trapped neck deep in corn inside the ten-thousand-bushel bin.
He did not fall in but was already inside the galvanized steel bin when he became trapped.
Rescue units from Iola, La Harpe, Colony and Anderson County responded and the man was removed from the bin about four hours later and taken by EMS to Allen County Regional Hospital. An air ambulance was brought in on standby but was not needed.
Once safety procedures were taken one person was inside with the man at all times, and he was given water and was talking to rescuers as efforts to extract him were underway.
