LINDSBORG, Kan. — The Lindsborg City Council Monday approved renewal of the subscription for the two Flock Cameras they now have and purchase of a third camera. Director of Public Safety Terry Reed said the cameras, which read and record license tag information, have been a good addition to the department.
Recently they were able to locate a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run near Bethany College based on the license tag information and damage to the vehicle, that vehicle being spotted by another Flock camera in Texas. McPherson County is in the process of deploying additional cameras at strategic highway locations.
The Council approved the purchase of some additional sprinkler heads for the city’s Golf Course along with some related electrical work to improve water coverage of some areas of the course. The work is going to be done by Tallgrass Turf Solutions at a cost of $5.775.
The Council approved a resolution designating the Wine and Wreaths event August 28th at the Smoky Valley Arts and Folklife Center as a special event promoting the arts, which enables them to serve liquor during it.
The Council heard a presentation from Loren Erickson, who voiced frustration with staff in regard to a recent sewer line issue at a residence in the 500 block of South Main where there have been ongoing sewer issues for about the last three years.
Earlier this year, it was found the issue was caused by a tree root, which he displayed to the Council, that went through not only the service line but the main that lies in the middle of the southbound lane of Main across from the residence. City staff had told him the entire cost of the repair, including that to the city’s main, was his responsibility.
The part of the repair attributed to the main was estimated by the contractor who did the work came to about $1,200, and Erickson said he felt, as did the contractor, that this should be the city’s responsibility.
City Administrator Tanner Faust said he and Chief Reed attended a meeting last week in McPherson where a proposed sales tax for ambulance services and other health-related matters was discussed. Faust told the Council there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the plan, which was proposed by McPherson County Commissioners and that it discussed during their meeting Monday.
