McPHERSON COUNTY, Kan. — Starting Monday, a one-mile section of 14th Avenue (Old Highway 81) north of McPherson will be closed for a pipeline repair project. The closure, currently scheduled to last through Aug. 14, is from Mohawk Road, or the north end of the Old 81 Bypass, to Navajo Road.

The work will involve removal of the entire road surface to access the Enterprise pipeline in order to make repairs which will involve lining the entire length of pipe to address an issue identified during routine testing. McPherson County Public Works is handling the road removal and replacement.

There are two detour routes established. For most vehicles, northbound traffic will detour at Mohawk, then go east to 15th Avenue, north to Navaho, then west back to 14th. Southbound traffic will detour at Navajo, go west to 13th, south to Mohawk, and east back to 14th.

For large trucks, the detour point on the north end will be at Pawnee Road, then east to I-135, south to the US 56 exit, then back west. Traffic going north will follow this detour in reverse. In the event of muddy conditions involving 13th, 15th, Mohawk or Navajo, this detour will be used by all traffic.

McPherson County Public Works will send updates as available.
