Beyond Barriers Launches “$35 for 35” Fundraiser in Honor of ADA’s 35th Anniversary

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (July 21, 2025) – In honor of the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Beyond Barriers has launched a community challenge: $35 for 35. The goal is to raise $3,500 through 100 donations of just $35 each by Aug. 1—a small ask with a big impact.

The ADA, signed into law on July 26, 1990, was a landmark piece of civil rights legislation that prohibited discrimination against individuals with disabilities. It opened the door to greater accessibility and equal opportunities in employment, education, public services, and more.

“Without the ADA, many in our community would still face life-altering barriers,” said Erica Rivera, Executive Director of Beyond Barriers. “We want to celebrate this milestone by inviting the public to take meaningful action—helping us continue to break down barriers for those with disabilities.”

Beyond Barriers provides free services to individuals with disabilities, helping them gain the skills and confidence to live, work, and participate fully in their communities. However, with rising demand and limited state funding, donations are critical to continuing—and expanding—this vital work.

Donations can be made online at beyondbarriersks.com/donate or sent to the Beyond Barriers office at 115 E 4th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Community Celebration Set for July 25

In partnership with the City of Hutchinson Human Relations Commission, Beyond Barriers invites the community to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the ADA on Friday, July 25, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Avenue A Park, 100 S Main St, Hutchinson. The event will include music, food, resources, and a celebration of progress made—and the work still to do.
