The Hutchinson Monarchs will begin their quest to play in a third-straight NBC World Series championship game at 6 p.m. Friday against the San Diego Stars.
The tournament is played at Eck Stadium on the Wichita State campus. The tournament begins at 6 p.m. Thursday with the Hays Larks playing the Seattle Blackfins.
The Monarchs were drawn into Pool B, along with San Diego, the Dodge City A’s, and the Seattle Cheney Studs.
The Monarchs will also play at noon Sunday against Dodge City, and 6 p.m. July 28 against Seattle. Free tickets for the July 28 game can be found at any Sedgwick County Pizza Hut or Taco Bell.
The Monarchs got an automatic bid to this year’s World Series as last year’s runner-up. The Monarchs lost the championship game to the Hays Larks. The year before, the Monarchs beat the Santa Barbara Foresters for their first title.
The Monarchs won this year’s Jayhawk Collegiate League championship. League opponents Derby Twins and Junction City Brigade will also play in the World Series.
Friday is Military Appreciation Day. All active and retired military personnel get a free ticket with proper military ID.
