SALINA, Kan. — Salina firemen were called late Saturday morning to a fire involving a log jam along the Smoky Hill River north of Bill Burke Park.
Responding crews found the main log jam untouched, but a smaller pile of logs on the west bank about 200 yards to the north was burning.
Firefighters accessed the fire site from Indian Rock Park and worked through trees and down the riverbank to reach the fire, which they were able to extinguish as much as possible.
The pile was expected to continue smoldering through the weekend, with crews to continue monitoring it.
