HUTCHINSON, Kan. (July 10, 2025) – Beyond Barriers, in partnership with the City of Hutchinson Human Relations Commission, invites the Hutchinson community to join in a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on Friday, July 25, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Avenue A Park, 100 S Main St, Hutchinson, KS.
“I really hope that people get an understanding of the ADA–that it’s a very important piece of legislation,” said Anthony Frischenmeyer, Employment Specialist with Beyond Barriers. “Everybody is in what we call a TAB, which is a temporarily-abled body. At any given second, we could step outside today and be hit by a car, and we are now disabled. So that is why the ADA is so important to me and should be to all of us.”
This free, family-friendly event is open to all and will feature games, activities for kids, free food, and disability simulation experiences designed to expand awareness and inclusion. The celebration will honor the legacy and continued importance of the ADA, a groundbreaking civil rights law signed into effect on July 26, 1990, which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, and more.
“I love working with Beyond Barriers because they’re honest and you don’t have to doubt what they’re doing or who they’re advocating for. This is the 35th year of the signing of the ADA, and I said well, ‘Let’s have a block party.’ So that’s what we’re doing,” said JK Vann, Human Relations Officer, City of Hutchinson. “We’re inviting everyone: people that are in wheelchairs, people that use adaptive devices, everyone, because we’re going to, as a community, explore what it means just to have good connection and fun times together. I want to see you there!”
