Update: Two Bodies Recovered from Boating Incident at Kanopolis Lake

ELLSWORTH COUNTY, Kan. (July 7, 2025) — The bodies of two people who went missing on July 3 at Kanopolis Lake have been recovered.

The Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office made an update on July 5 that the two missing from the boat accident at Kanopolis Lake on July 3rd have been recovered.

“Please…hold your family just a little tighter this Holiday,” the Sheriff’s Office shared, adding, “On the Public Service Message side of this tragedy…..LIFEJACKETS……..EVERY TIME!!!”

ELLSWORTH COUNTY, Kan. (July 4, 2025) — Search efforts are ongoing for two people unaccounted for in the wake of a Thursday evening boating incident at Kanopolis Lake.

The Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office said dispatch was notified of the incident at 7:21 PM near Kimball Point on the south side of the lake.

One young female was able to make it to shore safely with assistance from a nearby onlooker who rushed into the water to help rescue her. She was initially taken to Lindsborg Community Hospital and then airlifted to a Wichita hospital where she’s reported in serious condition.

Search and rescue/recovery work has involved fire and EMS crews from Marquette and McPherson, The McPherson Fire Department’s Dive Team, Saline County Mounted Patrol and Rescue, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Lyons Police Department.
