Buhler Sports Roundup: Golf and Track & Field Seasons Conclude at State

BUHLER, Kan.— Buhler golf put together a solid finish to the season, finishing just one stroke outside the top five at the 4A State Golf Tournament on May 28th at Newton’s Sand Creek Station. Wamego won the tournament for a third consecutive year.

Drew DeMeyer (155) used consistency to finish in eighth place individually. The field was tight, with positions three through eight separated by just four strokes. Zach Chance shot a 162 to finish in a five-way tie for 19th.

TRACK & FIELD

Buher track and field completed its season at this weekend’s State Track & Field Championship in Wichita. The Buhler boys finished second to Andale, who repeated as champions for a third consecutive year.

Zach Friesen (14.82) shaved a couple tenths off his preliminary time to finish second in the 100 hurdles. Max Harmony made the podium in pole vault, placing third with a mark of 15-0.

Buhler placed seventh in a very competitive girls’ field. Andale beat out defending champion Eudora to win the team title. It’s Andale’s seventh title in the last eight seasons.

Jenna Lackey capped her pole vault season with a mark of 10-0 and a third-place finish. The 4×100 relay team also turned in a third-place effort with a time of 49.07. That broke the school record set earlier this season by 100th of a second.
