Six Fatalities from Crashes Reported Over Memorial Day Weekend

A Wisconsin man was killed and two others injured in a Saturday morning crash on US 75 about three miles south of Burlington. The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victim as Dallas Reeves of Janesville.

He was southbound on 75 attempting to pass another vehicle when a northbound pickup driven by Charles Jarrell of LeRoy, in an attempt to avoid a collision, slowed and steered to the east shoulder, as did Reeves which led to the crash.

Reeves was pronounced dead at the scene, Charles Jarrell and a passenger in the pickup, Caleb Jarrell, were taken to Coffey County Hospital, Charles with reported serious injuries and Caleb with reported minor injuries.

As of Sunday afternoon, the Highway Patrol reported six people had been killed in crashes on Kansas highways this Memorial Day weekend.

Four of the fatalities came from a Saturday afternoon crash on K-4 about four miles west of the K-15 junction south of Abilene where a vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle. Four others in that crash were injured, two of whom were taken to a Wichita Hospital.

A Florida man died early Sunday morning when his car, which was going at a high rate of speed, went off US 77 near Junction City and hit a tree, after which it caught on fire.
