GREAT BEND, Kan. — The race is on for entrepreneurs across Barton County and beyond to apply for the 2025 IGNITE Rural Business Competition before the rapidly approaching July 1st deadline. With $95,000 in prize money on the line, there’s never been a better time to bring your business idea to life in Great Bend.

Now in its third year, IGNITE is more than just a pitch competition. It’s a full-circle launchpad for startups and small businesses looking to grow in a supportive, resource-rich environment. Competitors not only vie for life-changing funding, but also gain access to business mentors, business planning consultants, and exposure for their business.

“We’ve seen firsthand how IGNITE can spark real growth for entrepreneurs,” said Sara Arnberger, President of Great Bend Economic Development. “From restaurants to retail, past participants have walked away with funding, a support network, and a renewed vision for their future. But it all starts with submitting that application.”

How to Apply

To enter, entrepreneurs must:
1.     Submit a business plan
2.     Record and upload a 5-minute video pitch
3.     Sign and return the official rules and guidelines

Worried about writing a business plan? Don’t let that stop you. Organizers will match you with a professional business planning consultant through the Kansas Small Business Development Center or a local mentor, at no cost.

This year’s competition will culminate in a high-energy live finale in October, where finalists will pitch to a panel of judges and a live audience. One business will walk away with the grand prize of $50,000, with additional prizes of $30,000 and $10,000 awarded, plus a $5,000 People’s Choice Award.

IGNITE is designed to empower local entrepreneurs while boosting the region’s economy and talent pipeline. Applicants must be prepared to launch or grow their business in Great Bend, making this competition a true investment in the region’s future.
