McPherson Boys & Girls Track Place 2nd in League

BUHLER, Kan. – The McPherson High School Track & Field teams began their postseason in the annual AVCTL D3 meet at Buhler High School Friday, May 16.

McPherson’s boys & girls teams each finished second in the league, both finishing behind Buhler. However, the Bullpups finished as individual league champions in five events and placed 15 others on the podium.

The Bullpup Girls won three events. Senior Arihanna Koehn was dominant once again in the hurdle events, winning the 100M Hurdles and finishing 2nd in the 300M Hurdles by only 0.63 seconds. Elly Paulsen finished behind Koehn in the Hurdles events, placing 4th in the 100M and 3rd in the 300M.

Freshman Ellie Herrera won the High Jump event, placing higher than three seniors. Junior Andi Buschbom won the Long Jump and junior Kamri Shipman finished 2nd in the Triple Jump by half of an inch. Karsen Burris finished 2nd in the Javelin with 114-2. Eva Ramey finished 3rd int he 3200M Run and both the 4x100M and 4x400M Relay teams finished 2nd.

The boys team won two events, one track and one field. Junior Caleb Muehler continued his distance domination, winning the 1600M Run. Muehler also finished 2nd in the 800M Run. Ethan Elder had two great distance finishes as well, placing 3rd in the 800M Run and 4th in the 1600M Run. Matt Burger finished 2nd in the 100M and 200M Dash events and Kayden Friesen finished 2nd in the 400M Dash.

Junior Caden Wenderott won the Shot Put with 47-10. Dylan Hall finished 2nd in the Discus, placing just behind a Winfield senior.

The Bullpups will prepare for Regionals, which will be Thursday, May 22 at Abilene High School.
