IOLA, Kan. — Dr. Lyvier Leffler has been named the new President of Allen Community College. Dr. Leffler, who brings over two decades of higher education leadership to Allen, is expected to assume the office January 21, 2025. Dr. Leffler was selected from four finalists interviewed last week by the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Leffler is currently the Vice President of Student Success at Lone Star College in Texas. Previously, Dr. Leffler served as the Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Academics at Remington College, also in Texas. Dr. Leffler earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from Iowa State University, a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Iowa State University. Her work experience includes leadership roles at a number of colleges in Texas and 11 years at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Dr. Leffler has work experience and leadership experience across the board in higher education. Board of Trustees Chair Becky Nilges said they believe she is the fit they have been looking for to lead Allen forward in the wide variety of ways we serve those looking to continue their education pursuits.
Dr. Leffler is a dynamic leader and first-generation Hispanic community college graduate who grew up on a farm in Southeast Iowa. Her academic journey is rooted in a commitment to education and equity, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Sociology from Iowa State University, a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University. She is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Nilges expressed thanks to the entire College community for participating in the presidential finalist forums and selection process. All feedback was reviewed and greatly valued by the Board. This collaborative and concerted work truly enriched the search process. I would also like to express my appreciation to the Presidential Search Committee for their time, dedication, and thoughtful work on behalf of Allen Community College.
