McPHERSON, Kan. — One McPherson firefighter was injured Friday afternoon in a commercial building fire in the 1000 block of West Kansas.
McPherson Fire Chief Chad Mayberry said crews responding to an automatic alarm just before 4 PM found smoke coming from the building, where the engine compartment of a forklift was on fire.
While searching for the fire, two firemen fell into a partially uncovered pit used for automotive repairs. One firefighter was taken by McPherson EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical center with a lower leg injury.
That firefighter was treated and released, but will need follow-up care for the injury.
After the fire was extinguished, smoke was cleared from the building, The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the fire investigation, with McPherson Police, BPU, and Kansas Gas Service also responding.
