McPHERSON, Kan. — There will be a change to McPherson’s Veterans Day celebration this year.
The Veterans Day Parade, which normally runs down Main Street, has been canceled due to construction along the route.
However, the day will still begin at 8 a.m. with a breakfast at the American Legion Post 24 McPherson, until 10 a.m., for all veterans and their guests, sponsored by Gentiva Hospice.
The ceremony will follow at 11 a.m. at the Park Department Building. This year’s guest speaker is Rear Admiral Timothy A. Brown, son of Mayor Tom Brown, and also a McPherson native.
The events will conclude with a dinner served by the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW at 120 S. Taft. They will be serving meatloaf, cheesy potatoes, vegetables, dinner rolls, cookies, and drinks.
Please join in saluting all veterans who have served or who are currently serving.
* Remember * The difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day is that Memorial Day honors veterans who have passed, while Veterans Day is dedicated to honoring all veterans who have served this nation, the United States of America. May God continue to bless this nation.
